AWS Usage Instructions Dont Work

Hi,

I launched an aws instance using the omnisci AMI (non enterprise gpu version)

I ssh into the instance and then follow the instuctions given to log into the omnisql interface

/opt/omnisci/bin/omnisql -u mapd -p [aws intance-id]

However this is the response I get

Database omnisci does not exist.
Not connected to any database. See \h for help.
omnisql> \l
Thrift error: No more data to read.
Thrift connection error: No more data to read.
Retrying connection
Thrift error: No more data to read.
Thrift connection error: No more data to read.

Can someone please check the aws instructions. I have wasted a couple of hours of aws instances trying to get this to work.

Starting a centos image and installing manually everything works fine. I think the AMI’s need to be checked.

thanks,

Murray

Hi @murray,

thanks to pointing us to this problem caused by the uncomplete documentation provided for AWS instances.

the complete syntax to connect to database using omnisql is the following

/opt/omnisci/bin/omnisql -u mapd -p [ aws intance-id ] [ database ]

in this case the database has to be mapd, because in the aws image this is the way is called, while normally since 4.6 release it defaults to omnisci.
